As many of you who have regular sessions with me know, one of the most valuable tools in my work as a shaman is my pendulum. When I was studying the healing arts, I also learned about all of the intuitive tools shamans use in spiritual work—tarot, a pendulum, I Ching, runes, etcetera. To me, a pendulum seemed like the most straightforward of these tools; I could use the pendulum to get yes or no answers to questions of choice. Should I do this, or not? Should I go here, or would it be better to go over there? That kind of thing.
In my first class on dousing (the practice of using a pendulum), it occurred to me that if I were asking questions like this, I would also want to know who I was talking to. Who was giving me answers back through the pendulum? When I questioned my teachers regarding this matter, they said, “It is best to ask your higher self.” I thought this was a confusing answer, one that didn’t quite feel right to me.
So I dug deeper, trying to find what felt right, then let that feeling lead me to the true answer to my question. I started to rely on some of my channeling training—the practice of trying to muster some awareness of who exactly you are channeling during meditative and spiritual work—be that angels, spirit guides, or otherwise. Of course, during my studies, I was coming to find that the metaphysical realm is equally as complicated as the physical one… a feeling that only grows as I continue to practice.
In my search for the answer to my question—to know who exactly I was trusting to guide me in my choices—I determined that it would be beneficial to isolate a single entity, to direct my questions to someone I trusted to answer. I began to learn more about all the different angelic entities, and as I learned more about each of them, I began to decipher who to ask about specific topics, and how to use the chakra system as a scaffolding to understand the true answers to the questions I was asking using my pendulum. Using the chakra system to keep myself—and now, the people I work with—grounded in how I (or they) relate to the metaphysical world helps me interpret the answers that each angelic being gives to me through the pendulum, without letting any personal negative energy or specific preference cloud the clarity of their answer. Maintaining a system for gauging self-awareness allows me to access these answers unimpeded.
